If you are just starting a business, you likely do not have a lot of money and are trying to be careful with it. You may be at a point where you are starting to pay for things such as licenses, rent, liability, insurance, etc. You may be trying to save money wherever you can. However, there are things you will want to have guidance on as this will help save you time and heartache later. That includes legal advice.
When I was asked to speak at a women’s event, I spoke on “Knowing What I Know Now, What Would I Do Differently?” My answer was “Have many advisors.”
The Word says, “with many advisors you will succeed.” Take this verse very much to heart and be aware of its practicality. Yes: accountants and lawyers are expensive. However, they will provide direction to you, and give you scenarios of what could happen “down the road”, so you can be prepared now. They can also save you a lot of time now so you can be working on your business.
“We do not know what we do not know.” When we seek professional advice, we can be more confident we have all the information we need. There are some key advisors to have at the very beginning of your business, and a lawyer is one of them.
Business advisors not only help you to solve problems but can also help you to avoid unnecessary ones. God has given us clear advice in Proverbs 15:22 when He says, “Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed.” Consulting with a lawyer in the initial stages of starting any business is wise and should be factored in your start-up costs. This should include legal advice regarding necessary licenses and legalities for start-up, as well as advice on how to avoid legal issues in the future.
I hope this post has given you some things to consider!
