“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21)
Whether you have been in business for years, or have just ventured into owning or managing one, it is important to regularly review why you are doing what you are doing.
As a new manager or entrepreneur, you will have policies and procedures to put into place, people to manage and goals to achieve. You have the job of responsibly managing your resources in order to have a viable business, which is a job you have to do. However, it is the treasures that you are holding tightly which will reveal why you are doing what you are doing.
The Bible includes all the information you need to wisely manage your business. As you look after your business “bottom line” there is also a spiritual “bottom line” to consider. Are you referring to God’s Word as you make decisions, communicate with others and evaluate your motives? If so, as you treasure His Word in your heart, you are actively storing up treasures in heaven. You are running your business not just to earn an income, but also to honor God and bless others. You bless others when you “do not withhold anything from others that is in your power to provide.” and when you “do justice, love kindness and walk humbly with your God.”
This week, as you read God’s Word, ask God to reveal to you how you can be actively putting His wisdom, knowledge and instruction into practice in your workplace. As you read His Word, ask Him to sensitize your heart and soul to what He wants you to know. Then, consciously blend His biblical principles into your everyday work.
At the end of the week, record how His Word that you seek and treasure is resulting in your storing treasures in heaven. It may be something that happens, it may be a change in attitude or it may be peace you will feel as you seek His Kingdom and His Righteousness.
Have a wonderful week!
