“Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.” Hebrews 12:1
Busyness is a very personal term which can mean one thing to one person, and something else to another. Busyness can be healthy, or become unhealthy. It can be for a season, or it can be a lifestyle. However, busyness becomes a problem when it keeps you from doing something you believe you were meant to do.
Is “not having the time” or busyness, the reason why you have not yet done something you feel deep in your heart you should be doing?
Dear Heavenly Father: Lord, help me to never take lightly, or for granted, the time and gifts You have blessed me with. I want my actions to always honor You. Lord, You know me, my abilities and my deepest fears. Please guide me in what I should be doing, and not doing, as You give me the wisdom to make good choices. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Monday: Considering there is something you want to do, but have not yet started or completed it, would you say that busyness is interfering with it? Ask God whether this is the case if you are unsure of your answer.
Tuesday: Do you feel that you are doing too many things, which is why you are so busy? If so, what are you doing that you should not be doing? Take a moment to pray and ponder this question today.
Wednesday: Do you feel you are too busy because you are busy wasting time spinning your wheels? If so, what comes to mind when you find yourself wasting time “doing,” and what could you do differently at work or at home to retain your primary focus?
Thursday: Do you feel you are a perfectionist, and therefore waste too much time perfecting your work? If so, what does this look like in your life/workplace and what can you start to do differently? Ask Holy Spirit to guide you to make any required changes to your thoughts or actions.
Friday: What does the sentence: “Busyness is the unrivaled archenemy of spiritual authenticity” personally mean to you? Make some time to unpack this sentence today.
Have a wonderful week!
